I was at the Malaysian Nokia 5700 Launch at Izzy’s Restaurant in Midvalley with Colbert this morning. There was a mini tongue twisters-cum-rapping competition to win a free Nokia 5700!
The Nokia 5700 is marketed to youths with passion in music. It is a really fantastic piece of multimedia device which is capable of playing back good quality audio, snap great photos and shoot videos too!
It is available in 3 colours: Black, Red and Khaki Green.

Nokia 5700 has a swivel camera attached to the side of the keypad module (The white block), capable of twisting up to 180°.
Swivel it clockwise and you’ll load the camera application within a few seconds. Swivel it anti-clockwise, you can take self-portrait photos or make a 3G video call!
I didn’t have problem taking photos with the camera at all! It even has a panorama function! However, changing settings of the camera was a little troublesome though. The swivel thing makes it difficult for me to use the joystick for changing settings.
The 2.0 Megapixels camera is a little disappointing though. The phone could have deserved a better camera.
Features wise, it is as typical as any Symbian S60 phones.
It is capable of playing music files in the following formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA. The output sound quality was marvelous! They demonstrated the sound quality by outputting the playback on the speakers. It would’ve been better if I can test the earphones too.
Sorry guys, no HSDPA for this phone… but hey, there’s a 2.5mm audio jack! There’s even a 3.5mm converter included in the package.
Here are some of the features as stated by Nokia’s official website:
- Access your music in an instant by twisting your phone and pressing the dedicated music keys
- Share the groove in Hi-Fi sound with built-in stereo loudspeakers
- Plug your own headset into the standard 3.5 mm connector
- Snap photos or videos on the 2 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and flash
- Watch videos and view pictures on the brilliant 2.2″ QVGA screen in 16 million colors
- Store up to 1,500 of the songs on a 2 GB microSD card*
- Transfer music easily from a PC to your phone with Nokia Music Manager – then organize your songs into playlists
- Access videos with the dedicated key and twist your phone to use as a stand for easy viewing
- Live life in the fast lane. Surf the web and download with high-speed 3G technology
- Volume: 84 cc
- Weight: 115 g with battery
- Dimensions: 108.2 x 50.5 x 17.3 mm

Hey I own a nokia 5700 express music. Gotta say that it’s a great phone. Well even though the camera is two megapixels the quality is as good as a 4 mega pixel camera. the 4x digital zoom is not soo good but it’s still is quality. The phone has a hell of a lot of options and the 16 million colour screen is off the hook. the sound quality of the headphones is as good as a good home theatre system. It even has a movie editer in which you can edit movies changing the sound track to cutting off some parts to even entering pictures in between the video clip.
The phones fast and it’s totally cool to use it. It’s design is very smooth and it’s really comfortable to handle it. (the joy stick is a little bother but it too is ok). Compared to the N95 what i miss is the direct gps (this has the map and the gps application. butnot as advanced as the N95)and the 5 mega pixel camera. A really cool phone for a fun loving guy like me.

I’ve been eyeing this phone for a few months now and just bought it yesterday. The phone is so pricy here in the U.S. The average cost for the phone is anywhere around $320 and up. The cheapest I’ve found it for was $289 and so I bought it. It’s still in the process of shipping but I’m already worked up and excited to use it!

This phone is indeed great. But I feel that I haven’t maximized yet the features it could offer to users. So far, among the best of its features are its sound quality, wide screen, sharp images, and the coolness of the phone itself. If anybody would like to share with some of its undiscovered features and other stuffs, just email me. Thanks!

‘WOW’ is the best description of this phone. It is very easy to use; a cave man would operate this phone with so much ease. The camera is wonderful; a 2 million pixel camera and also has flash which makes fairly good pictures in the dark. I was going for the N93i but when I saw the 5700 on the internet I immediately changed my mind. This is one great phone which youngsters like us should buy.
